Cleaning Silk Flowers

Silk flowers left in an arrangement may often gather dust to look dull and not as vibrant as they were earlier. This is clear signal that it is time to clean the flowers without more delay.

Cleaning silk flower can be done in the traditional method as well as the modern method.

The traditional method involves the cleaning of silk flowers with a damp cloth. Dampen a piece of soft fabric in water and gently wipe away the dust that has collected on your silk flowers.

Another method is to use a feather duster to clean the dust from silk flowers. But it is often difficult, if not impossible to remove stubborn dust particles that have collected over time in difficult folds.

Hair-dryers may be used on low setting on blow away the dust, but again this will not remove stubborn dust.

Hence even though traditional methods of cleaning silk flowers may be expensive they may not be completely effective in removing dust and dirt completely.

The modern method to remove dust and dirt is to use a special chemical in spray form. When you mist on this chemical on the silk flowers it dissolves away even the stubborn dust particles and dirt leaving the flowers look bright again. But long periods of using chemicals may change the color and texture of the flowers plus the spray itself is expensive.

Over time the arrangement may fall loose and the overall shape may get spoiled. It is best to then dismantle the arrangement, clean it out and rearrange it again. But remember not to leave the silk flowers in the sun as this might cause discoloration of the flowers.

Do not ever use hot water to clean the flowers. It will melt the glue that hold the petals of the silk flower together and the whole flower may fall out then.

Most silk flowers are very delicate and vigorously cleaning them may spoil the flowers altogether.
