Modern Floral Arrangements
Modern floral arrangements are characterized by the modified L shape, negative space and focal space. While most dried flower arrangements are thought of formal and traditional, these can also be extremely contemporary and have a varied range of color.
Dramatic lines and empty spaces within a design (negative space) can make an arrangement very modern. These are created with only a few flowers without the tight mass forms of traditional arrangements. Most commonly used dried plants are strelitzia leaves, sweet huck and banana leaves, as well as branches and cones.
It is important to arrange flowers so that the focal point is highlighted and attention is drawn inwards to the design. One or two bulky focal pieces such as seed pods, mushrooms and large flowers are best for such areas. Minimalism is the keyword here. The other factors to consider are harmony, unity, texture, clear lines, space and a color scheme.
A modified l shape can be created with strelitzia leaves placed horizontally and vertically. Colors should all coordinate with the container as well as with each other. Sweet huck branches can help fill space at the back. Sponge mushrooms can be used at the sides to soften the look of the base. Use seed pods to fill the focal point of the arrangement in the center. The plants can be placed in front of the arrangement. It is best to work with uneven numbers. A palm spray might work well as a point of interest. Berries can add to the texture and color scheme. To cover the mechanics of the arrangement, finally hot glue some ming moss to the foam towards the front
